20 best-selling cars in South Africa

With a smidge under 2,000 units finding new owners in June 2022, the Suzuki Swift remains South Africa’s best-selling passenger car for the third month in a row.

While Toyota has reclaimed the crown of being the most-popular manufacturer in the country, its locally-produced models are still feeling the production woes caused by the KwaZulu-Natal floods, and the Urban Cruiser, therefore, is its best-selling model for June as well as the second best-selling vehicle in the country, moving 1,785 units.

In third, to the surprise of few, sits the VW Polo Vivo with 1,619 vehicles sold, this hatchback accounting for almost 30% of the automaker’s total of 5,672 sales last month.

The VW narrowly beat out the fan-favourite Ford Ranger in fourth, which sold a mere 18 fewer units at 1,601.

Capping off the top five best-selling cars for June is another Toyota, the Starlet, which had a stellar month with a total of 1,574 models making their way off the showroom floor.

These statistics were revealed in Naamsa’s latest industry new vehicle sales report for June 2022.
