South Africa’s most fuel-efficient bakkies, cars, and SUVs – What they cost on the used market

WeBuyCars (WBC) recently published a list of South Africa’s most fuel-efficient used cars after experiencing a big increase in search traffic for these models on its platforms.

These vehicles all achieve fuel consumptions of under 8.0l/100km, as this is what is considered “good” when it comes to fuel usage, said WBC.

Anything between 8.0-12.0l/100km is seen as average, with readings above 12.0l/100km being poor.

We reached out to WBC to find out how much motorists can expect to pay on average if they were to shop for one of the country’s most efficient vehicles on its marketplace.

The cars

Detailed below are the most fuel-efficient used cars in South Africa with their average selling price and mileage in 2022, as provided by WBC.

It must be noted that the dealer sells vehicles in all conditions and the average selling prices for the models on this list are affected accordingly.

WBC said it calculates its selling prices as per the kilometre reading, service record, and cosmetic and mechanical condition of the vehicle. As such, customers are urged to look at the Dekra report accompanying all WBC’s listings to get a better overview of a particular model’s condition before pulling the trigger on the sale.

“This is to provide our customers with peace of mind and [to] help them know more about the vehicle they are interested in buying,” said the company.
