This is how much it costs to fill up South Africa’s most popular cars

South Africa’s fuel prices have risen a staggering amount in the last few years, as it now costs just shy of R1,000 to fill up even the smallest of hatchbacks.

While current reports suggest that the price of petrol will be reduced in August, this is highly dependent on what actions the government will take to regulate the cost of fuel.

If the tax holiday on fuel first introduced in April is removed, only 33c may be taken off the cost of every litre of petrol.

For South African motorists, this means that any car with a 40-litre fuel tank or larger will easily pay over R1,000 at the pump, and this can now easily reach upwards of R1,500 to R2,000 on larger crossovers, SUVs, and bakkies.

What it costs

This is what it currently costs to refill the tank of the 15 most popular cars in South Africa, based on last month’s sales figures.

The official July inland price for petrol 95 is R26.74 per litre, while diesel 50ppm is currently sitting at R25.53.
