The best-selling car in South Africa once again bears a Toyota badge on the nose, but this time it’s the compact Urban Cruiser taking home the crown.
During the month of July, 1,854 customers drove away in a new Urban Cruiser, narrowly letting it inch ahead of another popular vehicle, the Ford Ranger.
The Ranger has benefited in recent months from the slowdown in Hilux production, with this bakkie sitting in second place for July after being fourth in June, thanks to a total of 1,838 models rolling out of dealership doors.
The VW Polo Vivo closes out the top three best sellers while also being the only other car in the country to sell over 1,800 units during July – at a grand total of 1,820 Vivos.
July was also the first time Chery started reporting its performance after the brand re-entered South Africa following its exit in 2018.
The Chinese manufacturer boasted impressive numbers considering its short time in the local market, moving a total of 1,262 vehicles with the small Tiggo 4 Pro by far being the top seller.
This currently makes Chery more popular in South Africa than many famous brands including Mercedes-Benz, Mazda, and Honda.
