Audi kicked off 2021 with a bang as we saw the release of their new R8 supercar in both a coupé and spyder variant.
The R8’s price matches its power and status, and in South Africa the car starts at R3,336,000.
With this you will get a V10 engine pushing out 449kW along with a 5-year/100,000km Audi Freeway plan – which can be extended for added peace of mind.
Seat heaters, parking assist systems, electronically-adjustable functions, and much more then cover almost every need the driver will have while in the vehicle.
This does not mean you cannot add to the car in the form of extras, however.
Below is a list of options available from Audi for the R8, along with their pricing.
Paint
Your first option will be paint.
Here, there are 10 options to choose from for the exterior colour – along with an additional “individual paint” option if you would like an exclusive look.
Two of these paint options are free of charge, the next six all cost R4,300, the Daytona Grey will set you back R19,500, Ara Blue has a price of R30,000, and the top-end Individual Paint option will cost you R59,500.
The Spyder derivative then has three colour options for its fabric top – black, brown, and red – but these come at no additional cost to the customer.
Wheels
Matte bronze, diamond-turned 20-inch wheels are fitted as standard in the “5-V-spoke Evo” style on the R8.
Two other wheel options are then available. The first is at no additional cost, while the sportier option in the “5-double-spoke dynamic” style that will set you back R34,000.
Styling
As standard, the R8 is fitted with a high-gloss black styling package that sees exterior components painted in glossy black.
This can be exchanged for carbon components with the Gloss Carbon styling package at an additional R150,000.
Sticking to the exterior, the all-important R8 side blade can be optioned in either Kendo Grey or Myth Black metallic at no extra cost; and the engine cover can be swapped for a gloss carbon replacement at a price of R77,300.
At the front end, the standard LED headlights with high beam control can be improved by going for the elegantly named “Audi laser light, dark tinted glass with dynamic turn signal” package, which sees additional laser high beams and headlight functions being fitted at a cost of R64,500.
Interior
Inside the R8 you will find fine Nappa Leather seats with diamond stitching as standard, along with decorative inserts in piano black lacquer.
For the coupé variant these inserts can be swapped for a matte carbon twill material at a price of R2,900 – and for the spyder, extended decorative inserts in glossy carbon twill is available at the same price.
Both vehicles have an optional smokers package at R1,000 – which adds a cigarette lighter and ashtray in your R8.
Handling
If the ride of your new Audi is not up to your standards, a comfort-focused “Audi magnetic ride” package can be added at a price of R35,000.
Or, if you need more adrenaline, a dynamic steering package can be opted for – which increases driving dynamics with more direct steering, and will cost you an additional R27,000.
Lastly, ceramic brakes are fitted to the car with red calipers as standard.
