Mitsubishi Ralliart returns – and it’s going to be available in South Africa

Mitsubishi is reviving its racing-inspired brand Ralliart in the form of sporty accessories for its range of vehicles including the popular Triton.

“Mitsubishi has a long history with their performance brand Ralliart, honed at the highest levels of motorsport, such as the Dakar Rally and World Rally Championship,” said Mitsubishi South Africa.

“In coming months this brand will be made available to customers locally through a range of Ralliart accessories for vehicles like the Triton and others.”

What to expect

Mitsubishi has already launched the Ralliart equipment in Japan, offering visual upgrades for the ASX, Eclipse Cross, Outlander, Pajero Sport, and Triton, thereby giving us a good idea of what to expect for our own market.

For the double cab, special cosmetics in this region include side decals, mud flaps, and a bed liner with the Ralliart logo.

Additionally available for vehicles under the Ralliart banner are White Diamond exterior paint, black alloy wheels, black painted roofs, skid plates, side sill extensions, mud flaps, front diffusers, rear spoilers, faux air inlets, floor mats, and red Ralliart stickers.

The automaker has also launched a range of Ralliart-branded accessories to go along with your sporty-looking new Mitsubishi, including key fobs, jackets, hats, wallets, and card cases.

Unfortunately, though, there are no performance enhancements currently planned to be introduced for Ralliart models.

A brief history of Ralliart

Mitsubishi’s Ralliart wing was established over 50 years ago as part of the manufacturer’s push into motorsport.

The subbrand allowed Mitsubishi to investigate and develop cutting-edge technologies and employ them in the racing arena, with the end goal to have these technologies also improve its everyday road-going production cars.

Through Ralliart, the Japanese manufacturer scored 34 overall victories in the World Rally Championship between 1967 and 2005, and 12 overall victories in the Dakar between 1983 and 2009.

During this time, Mitsubishi also slapped the Ralliart badge onto its more athletic road cars, including the Lancer Ralliart from 2007 and the later Sportback Ralliart from 2010.
