What it costs to take home the new Alfa Romeo Tonale on a finance plan

The new Alfa Romeo Tonale will require a monthly payment of at least R14,243 per month if bought on a finance plan, according to a calculation by TopAuto.

The Italian SUV is available in three trim levels with prices starting at R739,900 for the base-model Ti.

Regardless of the model chosen, the Alfa is fitted with a new hybrid powerplant consisting of a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor.

Left to its own devices, the electric motor will produce 15kW and 55Nm, but when paired with the petrol drivetrain, the Tonale’s output is brought up to a total figure of 118kW and 240Nm.

This results in an acceleration time of 8.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 210km/h, while fuel consumption works out to a frugal 5.7l/100km.

Other tricks in the SUV’s arsenal include regenerative braking, a silent start-up procedure, and an “e-Boost” mode improving torque on each wheel.

Standard amenities on the new Alfa further consist of LED Matrix lights, alloy wheels starting at 17 inches, a rear-view camera, driver alert monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and lane-keep assist.

The interior also sports an upholstery combining cloth, suede, and leather, as well as a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 10.25-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

What it costs

We can calculate what it would cost to purchase the most affordable new Alfa Romeo Tonale Ti on a payment plan by using the following formula:

  • Car price – R739,900
  • Payment term – 60 terms (5 years)
  • Interest – 10%
  • Deposit – 10%
  • Balloon – No balloon payment
  • Extras – No optional extras

According to this, anyone who is interested in owning the stylish Italian crossover will need to pay at least R14,243 per month.

Financial experts then recommend that you do not spend more than 20% of your gross monthly salary on vehicle payments.

From this, we can determine that prospective buyers of the Tonale will need to earn a minimum of R71,215 per month in order to reasonably “afford” the car.

It must be noted, however, that this figure does not include additional expenses that need to be accounted for, such as insurance, fuel, and maintenance.
