The World Car Awards recently announced its list of finalists for the title of World Car of the Year 2022.
The group, which is made up of a jury of 82 international motoring journalists from 24 different countries, narrowed down its list of favourites to the top 10, with additional categories made for the best luxury, performance, electric, urban, and designed cars that came out last year.
These are the 10 finalists for the coveted Car of the Year title:
- Alfa Romeo Tonale
- BMW 2 Series
- BMW X1
- Honda HR-V
- Mazda CX-60
- Mercedes-Benz C-Class
- Hyundai Ioniq 6
- Kia Niro
- Nissan Ariya
- Nissan Z
Unfortunately, the Hyundai, Kia, and two Nissans are not available in South Africa, though there’s a chance at least one of them will go on sale soon.
While Hyundai has confirmed that there are currently no plans in the pipeline to bring the Ioniq to the local market, Kia said that it is investigating a possible introduction of its Niro.
Nissan, too, said that the Z will unfortunately not make it to our roads, and has remained hush about the availability of its headlining electric SUV, the Ariya.
The good news, however, is that the majority of the critically-acclaimed vehicles on the World Car list of finalists can either be found at local dealerships or will be coming to the country in the near future.
