What the average new car in South Africa looks like right now

The average value of a new-car finance plan in the first quarter of 2023 was R393,441 over a period of 67.5 months.

There are many models for sale around this price bracket, including an abundance of crossovers and SUVs which are quickly becoming the favourite body style for local car buyers.

Unsurprisingly, popular vehicles such as the Toyota Corolla Cross and VW T-Cross both regularly feature in the country’s best-selling cars list and both are priced within R1,000 of the average finance contract value.

Other sought-after mini-SUVs including the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, Ford EcoSport, and Haval Jolion are also available around this price point, as are hatchbacks like the Honda Fit and bakkies like the Mahindra Pik Up.
