The popularity of the crossover segment in South Africa continues to grow at a rapid pace, as evidenced by another month of strong sales.
The best-selling crossover in July 2023 was the Toyota Corolla Cross with 1,801 units, and continuing its streak as one of the country’s favourite vehicles.
While a Toyota taking the top spot is hardly a surprise in South Africa, given the brand has a major presence here with a factory in Durban, the runner-up was none other than the Haval Jolion, illustrating how local consumers have been warming up to Chinese carmakers in the last few years.
The Jolion sold 833 units, which was shortly followed in third place by the Nissan Magnite – one of the most affordable compact SUVs in the country – which saw 798 purchases.
Fourth place then went to another Chinese automaker, namely Chery and its Tiggo 4 Pro, which had 693 units finding new owners.
Renault was the final brand to make it into the top five with its Kiger – the architectural twin of the Magnite – selling 590 units in July.
Other companies to make it into the top 15 include VW, Suzuki, Hyundai, and Kia, where the T-Cross, Grand Vitara, Venue, and Sonet all performed well.
