R450,000 bakkies competing with the new JAC T8

JAC has launched the updated T8 bakkie in South Africa, offering a relatively affordable option in the double-cab scene with two models that retail below the R500,000 mark.

It can be had in rear-wheel or four-wheel-drive configurations, though both units feature the same 2.0-litre, turbocharged diesel powerplant with 104kW and 320Nm.

This motor is exclusively paired to a six-speed manual gearbox, which results in a fuel consumption return of 7.8l/100km. The bakkie can also tow 2,000kg and carry 900kg in the rear tray.

Visually, the facelift has given the T8 a new front end with a chrome-plated grille, xenon headlights, and LED daytime running lights, while the 18-inch alloy wheels now feature a new design.

The 4×4 version also gets a customized black off-road style bar, rear step bumper, and side steps.

Equipment on the bakkie now includes a multifunction steering wheel, manual air conditioning, genuine leather front seats, an electric driver seat, a multi-information driver’s display, a sunroof, USB ports, a 9-inch media screen with smartphone pairing, cruise control, hill-start hold control, tyre-pressure monitoring, ABS with brake assist, and two front airbags.

High-rider head-to-head

These are the entry-level double-cab bakkies in South Africa that the new JAC T8 will need to contend with.
