Bakkies competing with the new limited-edition Toyota Hilux

Toyota has launched a limited-edition version of its best-selling Hilux series in South Africa, known as the Raider X.

It retains the tried-and-trusted 2.4-litre, turbo-diesel powerplant as its siblings, and is available in both six-speed manual and automatic specifications at a starting price of R674,800 and R704,000respectively.

Combined with a part-time 4WD system, this gives the double cab a power cap of 110kW and 400Nm, allowing it to tow 3,500kg and support 830kg in the back.

It also has a fuel consumption of 7.7l/100km, a ground clearance of 286mm, and a water wading depth of 700mm.

To denote its special status in the range, the X has been given cosmetic details such as black side steps, a matte-black styling bar, large matte-black wheel arches with red inserts, a chrome grille, an integrated tonneau cover, unique 17-inch alloy wheels, a rubberized load bay, and Raider X badges on the exterior and inside the cabin.

This is in addition to the equipment found on the normal Raider which includes automatic headlights, LED foglamps, a multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, four speakers, USB ports, a reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors, and an infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
