Monthly insurance costs for the R229,900 Hyundai Grand i10

Motorists looking to own the new Hyundai Grand i10 will need to spend around R1,250 per month on insurance, according to research done by TopAuto.

The i10 is the automaker’s new entry-level vehicle following the cancellation of the Atos earlier this year, with a price tag that ranges from R229,900 to R309,900.

It is available in both hatchback and sedan forms with either a 1.0-litre or 1.2-litre petrol engine driving the front wheels.

The 1.0-litre unit produces 49kW and 94Nm, while the 1.2-litre generates a greater 61kW and 114Nm, with fuel consumption ranging between 5.5l and 5.9l/100km, depending on the engine chosen and whether you opt for a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox.

Standard equipment across the range consists of 14-inch steel wheels, cloth seats, a multifunction steering wheel, manual air conditioning, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, ABS, two airbags, and an infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Opting for the top-spec models will then throw in cruise control, a height-adjustable driver seat, electric folding mirrors, LED daytime running lights, and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Insurance costs

We used Hippo’s car insurance quote tool to find out what the monthly insurance premiums on the new Hyundai would be.

The calculations were based on an individual living in a metropolitan area like Johannesburg with no claims history who would be able to store their car in a locked garage at night.
