Best-selling car from every brand in South Africa

With over 40 automakers selling their cars in South Africa, local buyers have plenty of choice when it comes to spending their hard-earned money on a new set of wheels.

Out of the 46,021 new vehicles sold in the country in September, crossovers and SUVs were the clear favourites.

From the R350,000 Kia Sonet, to the R980,000 BMW X3, to the R2.3-million Range Rover Sport, brand and price didn’t matter all that much to buyers, what did was the practical body style that garnered more favour than all the other vehicles in the automakers’ catalogues.

Bakkies, too, were rather well-liked as Ford, Isuzu, JAC, Mahindra, Nissan, and Toyota’s best sellers all fell into this segment scoring hundreds, even thousands of sales.

Hatchbacks almost matched this popularity, with the Fiat 500, Opel Corsa, Suzuki Swift, and VW Polo Vivo standing above their stablemates in September.

At the other end of the body style spectrum, however, only one sedan, the Honda Amaze, and one MPV, the Mitsubishi Xpander, earned the honour of being the best-selling vehicle for their respective automaker.
