Hyundai continues to soldier on as one of South Africa’s most popular car brands, consistently placing in the top five in Naamsa’s best-sellers lists every month.
The South Korean manufacturer has become a firm favourite in the local motoring scene thanks to an extensive line-up of vehicles of all shapes, sizes, and price brackets, all of which are backed up with solid after-sale support including a 7-year/200,000km drivetrain warranty.
This past October, no other vehicle from Hyundai was as sought after as the Grand i10 with 680 sales, something that doesn’t come as a surprise given that the i10 is now the entry-level option for the brand now that the Atos is retired.
Next up was the i20 hatchback, which is competing in one of the country’s most popular segments alongside rivals like the VW Polo and Renault Clio, and still performed admirably with 635 sales.
Third place went to the Venue with 309 units finding new owners, another unsurprising result given the ever-growing popularity of affordable crossovers in South Africa.
Outside of the top three, the Tucson SUV saw a lot of interest with 265 units sold, as did the Staria and Grand Creta which both offer a set of wheels with more than the usual five-seat arrangement.
The more agile Kona crossover was able to outperform the normal Creta, and Hyundai also sold a handful of Santa Fe and Palisades aimed at a high-end audience with the need to transport groups of people.
Finally, the most exclusive Hyundai to leave showrooms was the i30, which is only available in its hot hatch N form in South Africa, and thus commands a sizeable price tag.
