The Suzuki Jimny’s five-door sibling has touched down in South Africa, offering three derivatives in total with prices ranging from R429,900 to R479,900.
It is one of the most affordable 4x4s in the country, using an AllGrip all-wheel-drive system in tandem with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox.
Power is provided by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which generates 75kW and 130Nm while averaging 6.3l to 6.8l/100km on a typical fuel cycle.
Standard equipment on the larger SUV includes a new chrome grille, rear park distance control, a rear 12V socket, privacy glass for the rear windows, a 7.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera, 15-inch alloy wheels, cloth seats, electric door mirrors, a multifunction steering wheel, two airbags, air conditioning, electric windows, two airbags, ABS, and hill assist.
Getting the top-spec GLX units will then throw in LED headlights, cruise control, climate control, a larger 9.0-inch display, rain-sensing wipers, and six airbags.
Each purchase of the Jimy five-door also comes with a 5-year/200,000km warranty and a 4-year/60,000km service plan.
Looking at the market
The Suzuki Jimny is clearly a trendsetter within the South African motoring scene, as it is still the cheapest 4×4 SUV on the market today.
There are, in fact, only two other crossovers that offer a 4WD system for less than half a million rand, one of which is another Suzuki with the Vitara, while the other is the Renault Duster.
That being said, there are still a number of compact SUVs currently being sold for a similar price as the Jimny, which you can compare in the list below.
