Special-edition Nissan Magnite Kuro – What you get for R320,000

Nissan is continuing the rollout of new models for its highly successful Magnite series in South Africa with the Kuro – a special-edition version that offers a unique appearance.

The Magnite is one of the most popular cars in the country, having placed 15th in 2023’s best-seller list, making it Nissan’s number one passenger car and its second biggest success behind the NP200 compact bakkie.

A big part of this success is due to the fact that the Magnite is both one of the most affordable crossovers in South Africa, and one of its most affordable cars overall, making it an appealing choice for thousands of motorists in this day and age when SUVs are all the rage.

The Kuro, therefore, comes as an even more intriguing value proposition as a stylish take on the Nissan, as it is offered in both a manual and automatic specification with prices starting at R323,200 and R351,800, respectively.

What you get

The fashionable new Magnite is based on the mid-range Acenta model, which has gained a dark makeover on account of its name – Kuro being the Japanese word for black.

This includes a set of gunmetal black 16-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, various model-unique Kuro badges, black resin skid plates, a piano-black grille, and a black tailgate, with the only bright colour coming from red brake calipers on the wheels.

The interior features seats with black synthetic leather upholstery and a diamond stitch pattern, as well as a black dashboard and gearstick, which are contrasted against a dark grey finish on other components like the armrests.

Beyond that, the crossover has keyless entry and start, a 7.0-inch driver display, a wireless charger, a leather multifunction steering wheel, automatic air conditioning, and an 8.0-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It also brings safety items in the form of ABS, traction control, hill assist, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and two airbags.

Moving the front-wheel-drive car along is a 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine that generates 74kW and 160Nm, which customers can pair with either a five-speed manual or a CVT transmission.

Opting for the manual gives a fuel consumption return of 5.3l/100km, while the CVT uses 6.0l/100km.

Each purchase of the new Magnite Kuro is accompanied by a 6-year/150,000km warranty and a 3-year/30,000km service plan.
