When to replace the most important parts of your Suzuki

Timeous car maintenance is vital to ensure a joyful ownership experience.

Suzuki South Africa has therefore provided a helpful guide to its customers on when it’s recommended to check and change an important part of your car, and depending on the type of component, you will have to replace it anywhere from once a year to once every 15 years.

While the vehicle is still covered under a service plan, many, and in certain cases, all of these parts will be replaced during a scheduled checkup, however, if these after-sales contracts have already expired, it’s paramount that you know when a mechanical health assessment should be done to ensure your ride continues driving smoothly.

The replacement cycles of key parts of your Suzuki, according to the manufacturer itself, are as follows:

Component Replacement cycle
Windscreen wipers 1 to 2 years
Battery 2 to 3 years
Power steering fluid 3 to 5 years
Tyres 4 to 5 years
Air conditioner compressor 12 to 15 years
Oil filter 5,000km to 15,000km
Air filter 19,000km to 25,000km
Brakes 50,000km to 65,000km

The importance of regular upkeep

There are many upsides to knowing when to replace certain car components before they reach the end of their lifespan.

The first is cost management, as it helps you plan and budget for the job rather than being surprised by a sudden part failure and an accompanying bill that you may not be able to afford in the moment.

Additionally, it allows you to proactively schedule a service before something important fails completely and causes more severe damage, and enables you to effectively communicate whichever concerns you may have to a mechanic.

Safety is another important aspect to consider.

Knowing the recommended maximum age of something that could save your life such as brakes, tyres, and suspension components will assist in prioritising which pieces to replace first to maintain optimal safety levels.

Regularly replacing worn-out parts can also improve the overall efficiency and reliability of your prized possession, resulting in better fuel economy, smoother performance, and a smaller chance of experiencing a breakdown.

Finally, a well-maintained vehicle with fresh parts can lead to a higher resale value when the time comes to say goodbye.

“In essence, having knowledge about replacement part lifespans provides car owners with the tools they need to effectively manage their vehicle’s maintenance, budget, safety, and overall performance, contributing to a more positive and hassle-free ownership experience,” said Suzuki.
