New Foton Tunland V9 goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features
Foton has officially launched the new Tunland V9 in South Africa.
Thanks to our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists, we now know that both the Tunland V7 and Tunland V9 have been added to the company’s local website.
The two V-badged bakkies are a new addition to the automaker’s roster, which was previously limited to the Tunland G7 series.
The new V9 is positioned as the flagship of Foton’s stable, available in two specifications with a starting price of R725,900.
To put that in perspective, these are the base prices for every Foton double cab in South Africa:
With that in mind, this is what the new V9 has to offer.
Performance

The V9 uses the same engine as the V7, which takes the form of a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel plant with 48V mild hybrid technology.
This gives it a total of 120kW and 450Nm, which is sent to wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The base VLX model is rear-wheel-drive, while the top-spec LTD has a four-wheel-drive system with a front and rear differential lock.
Fuel consumption averages out to 9.0l/100km on the VXL, and 10.8l/100km on the LTD.
Interestingly, the V9 is the exact same size as the V7, though both are bigger than the G7:
| Dimension | Foton Tunland G7 | Foton Tunland V7 | Foton Tunland V9 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Length | 5,340mm | 5,617mm | 5,617mm |
| Width | 1,940mm | 2,000mm | 2,000mm |
| Height | 1,870mm | 1,910mm | 1,910mm |
| Wheelbase | 3,110mm | 3,355mm | 3,355mm |
| Ground clearance | 210mm | 240mm | 240mm |
Likewise, the V9 has the same carrying capacity as the V7, as it can tow 3,500kg and haul 1,000kg in the rear tray.
Features

While the V7 and V9 may be the same size, they have different bodies that help to give each bakkie its own identity.
The V9 is less blocky than the V7 but nevertheless has muscular proportions with black wheel arches, a large front bumper, and black grille with FOTON lettering on the front of the bonnet.
It also has horizontal LED headlights and daytime running lights, in contrast to the V7 which has large L-shaped DRLs framing its vertical headlamps.
Features on the VLX start with an engine guard plate, 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, automatic headlights, side steps, a lockable tailgate with a deployable step, and auto-folding side mirrors with integrated indicators.
It also comes with keyless entry and start, a multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, a 12V and 220V socket, imitation leather seats, electronically adjustable heated front seats, six speakers, a wireless charger, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a digital instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay.
Additionally, the V9 features various assistance functions, including tyre pressure monitoring, driver attention monitoring, forward collision warning, pedestrian collision warning, cruise control, blind spot detection, lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, a 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors.
Upgrading to the LTD will then add a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and traffic jam assist.
