New Mahindra XUV 7XO officially unveiled

Mahindra has officially revealed the facelifted XUV 700 SUV.

The 700 was launched in South Africa in late 2022 and is positioned as the brand’s penultimate vehicle behind the Scorpio-N Adventure SUV.

The Indian carmaker took the covers off the updated XUV700 in its home market, showcasing a revamped exterior and interior with an expanded equipment list.

Interestingly, the XUV 700 is being renamed, as it will be now be called the XUV 7XO following the update.

This decision is likely meant to bring the SUV’s naming convention in line with the newer and smaller XUV 3XO.

The 3XO, which was introduced in late 2024 as a replacement for the XUV300, has been a big hit in South Africa, and so it comes as little surprise that the XUV700’s name is being changed to better align with that model.

The updated XUV 7XO is set to launch in India later this month, but Mahindra has yet to confirm when the SUV will make its way to South Africa.

What’s new

The vehicle’s dimensions are unchanged, clocking in at a length of 4,695mm and a width of 1,890mm.

Visually, the new 7XO has seen some changes to the front with a slimmer vertical grill pattern, a more prominent bumper, and sleeker C-shaped LED daytime running lights framing the dual projector LED headlamp clusters.

Exterior components like the side mirrors a new gloss black finish, and the car has a new set of 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

At the back, you’ll find a new set of “diamond-inspired” taillights, a redesigned rear bumper, and a roof spoiler.

However, its the interior that has seen the biggest changes, as the SUV has a new dashboard with up to three 12.3-inch screens comprised of a digital driver display, a central infotainment unit, and a front passenger entertainment system.

It also has a two-spoke leather steering wheel, multi-colour ambient lighting, a 16-speaker Harmon Kardon stereo, a panoramic sunroof, electric ventilated seats, and two-tone upholstery.

The centre console has been given a new, minimalist aesthetic, though this has come at the expense of the physical aircon controls.

Importantly, the SUV will once again be offered with seating for up to seven passengers, depending on the trim level.

Mahindra has also given the X7O an expanded Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite that includes things like adaptive cruise control and a 540-degree camera.

The engine selection is unchanged, which means the South African units should come with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 149kW and 380Nm.

This is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, resulting in an average fuel consumption of around 8.0l/100km.

Pricing for the XUV 7XO will only be announced closer to its South African introduction, but as a point of reference, the XUV700 currently retails for between R495,199 and R627,899.
