New VW T-Roc coming to South Africa – What to expect

The new VW T-Roc crossover is scheduled to appear in South Africa next month.

The annual Festival of Motoring is set to take place at the Kyalami Circuit in Midrand, Gauteng, from the 28th to the 30th of August 2026, and several car brands are set to make an appearance.

One of the brands confirmed for the event is Volkswagen, which plans to showcase several of its latest products, including the new T-Roc.

“As Volkswagen Group Africa celebrates 75 years in South Africa, the brand is set to make a bold statement at the 9th edition of the Festival of Motoring at the iconic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit,” said the event’s organisors.

“Marking this significant milestone, VW will unveil the all-new T-Roc to the South African public for the very first time through the vibrant House of Roc experience.

Other VW models confirmed for the event include the Vivo Xpress, Tayron and Amarok Dark Label.

What to expect

The new T-Roc was confirmed for our market back in February, when VW stated that the compact SUV would arrive in the second half of the year.

Now in its second generation, the T-Roc has been given a host of new features to set it apart from the brand’s older models.

It is the third SUV to be built on the brand’s MQB evo modular platform after the current-gen Tiguan and Tayron.

In other markets, the T-Roc is sold with a variety of powertrains, including mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.

In South Africa, the crossover will use a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 110kW and 250Nm.

It is front-wheel-drive and uses a seven-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox.

The new T-Roc is slightly bigger than the old one, as the length has increased by 122mm to 4,373mm, improving the cabin space. The wheelbase has also been increased by 28mm to 2,631mm.

The company confirmed that it will be made available in both Life and R-Line trim levels with a generous amount of kit.

A pair of restyled LED headlights are included, which customers can optionally upgrade to the brand’s IQ.Light LEDs.

Both the front and rear VW badges are illuminated, and the wheels now range in size from 19 to 20 inces.

Interior features include a multifunction leather steering wheel, fabric upholstery, automatic climate control, a wireless charger, a digital driver display, and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A head-up display is sold as an optional extra.

On the R-Line, you’ll find a pair of ergoActive seats with 14-way electronic adjustability and a massage setting.

More information on the new VW T-Roc will be announced when the vehicle makes its debut at Kyalami next month.
