New Nissan Tekton revealed – And it’s coming to South Africa

Nissan has unveiled the all-new Tekton SUV at its world premiere in India and confirmed it will be coming to South Africa as well.

The Patrol-inspired crossover has been developed and manufactured in partnership with Renault in Chennai, India, and will be exported to 50 global markets across the Middle East and Africa.

During the vehicle’s unveiling, Nissan’s Chief Performance Officer, Guillaume Cartier, explained that the carmaker is building a stronger and more competitive brand in India.

“As we continue to strengthen our SUV-led portfolio and sharpen our market focus, the world premiere of the all-new Nissan Tekton reflects our ambition to leverage strategic partnerships to expand our market coverage,” he said.

“Tekton is a clear expression of how Nissan is transforming with purpose – towards a more competitive, diverse portfolio.”

Local specification and pricing was not confirmed during the launch and will only become apparent closer to the crossover’s local launch.

What we know so far

The crossover was developed alongside customer insight, with every aspect of the vehicle, from its design and technology to its comfort and practicality, shaped around real-world needs.

Its design is inspired by the Nissan Patrol, and built on the shared Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance CMF-B platform found in the India-built Duster.

Standard features include a premium spacious cabin, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, generous storage and a large luggage compartment.

The Tekton features Google-powered connectivity, including Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play, alongside a digital cockpit experience and connected services designed to make driving more intuitive.

Furthermore, the crossover’s safety features include a reinforced structure, six airbags and an advanced suite of driver assistance technologies, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Warning.

Powertrains

When it comes to propulsion, the Nissan will give buyers a choice between two turbocharged petrol motors.

These motors, found in the soon-to-arrive Indian Dusters as well, include a 1.0-litre block producing 74kW and 166Nm, and mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

The second option is a 1.3-litre motor with the same six-speed manual box, or a 6-speed DCT with e-shifter, producing up to 120kW and 280Nm.

Performance and fuel consumption figures for the two powertrain configurations are not yet known.
