New Toyota Fortuner Mild Hybrid – South African pricing and features

The mild-hybrid (MHEV) Toyota Fortuner is landing in local showrooms soon and will be on offer in four options.

According to Duoporta vehicle information specialists, pricing for the semi-electric SUV starts at R834,800 and it is offered in standard and VX trim levels as well as in rear-wheel drive (RWD) and 4×4 guise.

Alongside the Fortuner MHEV, the Japanese automaker is also introducing a mild-hybrid Hilux and the beefy Hilux GR-Sport III.

Electrified 7-seater

The new Fortuner MHEV’s electrified powertrain incorporates a 2.8-litre, turbo-diesel motor, and a mild-hybrid system consisting of a 48-volt battery and electric motor generator.

The setup generates 150kW and 500Nm and reports an average fuel usage of 7.3-7.6l/100km, depending on whether you get the RWD or 4×4 model, both of which feature a six-speed automatic gearbox.

According to Toyota, the mild-hybrid system aids in downhill-assist control and improves low-speed drivability and braking capabilities.

Smoother acceleration is also ensured with 12kW and 65Nm of boost when pulling away from a standstill.

The entire Fortuner MHEV line-up additionally provides Eco and Sport drive modes and is equipped with a diff lock as standard, while the 4×4 variants bring 2H, 4H, and 4L settings.

Standard kit on the seven-seater comprises automatic LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, electric front seats wrapped in leather, a leather/wood multifunction steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, hill assist, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, ABS with brake assist, and seven airbags.

The VX is enhanced with heated seats, an 11-speaker JBL stereo, a panoramic view camera system, lane-departure alert, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring.
