Toyota’s rebranded Driving Academy opens in South Africa – It looks awesome

Toyota South Africa has announced that the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Driving Academy is now open to the public.

Previously known as the Toyota Driving Academy, the new TGR programme will offer several courses to local drivers.

“Interested parties can choose from one of eight courses, or a combination thereof,” said the company.

These include:

Collision avoidance
Gravel/dirt road training
Advanced 4×4 and recovery
Advanced defensive driving
Defensive driving and traffic psychology
Dynamic handling and hijack prevention
On-road/off-road driving for both 4×2 and 4×4

The TGR Driving Academy is situated in Johannesburg, Gauteng with most of the training sessions taking place at the Gerotek Testing Facility outside Pretoria.

Their courses are carried out throughout the African continent, however, and they are currently providing training in 12 different countries.

“We truly believe that anyone who holds a driver’s licence should, at the very least, attend an advanced defensive and collision avoidance course as this builds confidence and the skills required to drive on local roads,” said Paul de Vos, managing director of the TGR Driving Academy.

He adds that the only thing you need to participate in one of these sessions is a “driver’s license, an open mind, and a desire to change your mindset”.

The TGR Driving Academy is open to individuals and groups, and training sessions take place on weekdays.

If you are unable to attend the weekly sessions, the driving academy will also host courses every second weekend.

The cars

A full fleet of Toyota vehicles are available to customers to use, and the line-up includes the Toyota Hilux, Fortuner, Corolla, Yaris, and GR Supra.

Upon completion of the programme, every customer will then receive a certificate.
