New LDV 7-seater now in South Africa – Specifications and launch date confirmed

The first two units of the new LDV D90 have landed on South African shores for final homologation and to give interested customers their first hands-on experience with the seven-seater SUV.

LDV is the country’s youngest Chinese automaker and has thus far only been in the business of selling bakkies, with the D90 to be its first foray into the SUV segment.

Later this year, it will also tackle the Luxury MPV category with the G90 and the commercial vehicle sector with the G10+ Delivery Van.

The manufacturer confirmed that the first D90 customer units are expected to arrive in South Africa in the final quarter of 2024.

D90 specifications

At launch, LDV’s new SUV will be available in Elite and Flagship trim levels.

Standard kit on both models comprises automatic LED headlights and daytime running lights, black 18-inch alloy wheels, a moonroof, climate control with rear-seat vents, leather upholstery, dual wireless charging pads, USB ports in the front and rear of the cabin, a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and eight speakers.

On top of this, buyers can expect six airbags, adaptive cruise control, a built-in dash cam, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and electronic stability control.

Upgrading to the Flagship derivative further brings diamond-cut 20-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, a larger panoramic sunroof, a 12-speaker JBL stereo, and a 360-degree camera system.

In the local market the D90 range will also be equipped with the Black Package as standard, which encompasses darkened door handles, side mirrors, window trims, roof spoiler, roof rails, and wheel-arch mouldings on both models.

Up front, the seven-seater LDV features a 2.0-litre, bi-turbo diesel powerplant producing 160kW and 500Nm paired with an eight-speed automatic box.

The generous output allows the SUV to tow up to a maximum of 3,100kg.

Both variants also boast 4×4 with low range and a central differential lock, whereas the Flagship gains front and rear differential locks, too, for a total of three.

Ground clearance comes in at 220mm, and the seven-seater stands 5,046mm long, 2,016mm wide, and 1,870mm tall – putting it in the same ballpark as the Ford Everest and Toyota Fortuner.

Local pricing for the D90 has yet to be released with this to be “made available soon,” said LDV.

However, the company has confirmed that each model will be supported by a 5-year/200,000km mechanical warranty and a 5-year/100,000km service plan.
