New Hyundai i20 for South Africa – Pricing revealed

Pricing for the updated Hyundai i20 has been revealed ahead of its launch in South Africa later this week, and it’s cheaper than before.

According to Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists, the B-segment hatchback now starts at R309,900, making it R23,600 less expensive than the previous entry-level model which started at R333,500.

The update has brought several revisions to the i20 line-up, as it now consists of five derivatives instead of six.

The roster has also been renamed, as the entry-level model is now called Premium instead of Motion, while the mid-range Fluid is now referred to as Executive.

Engines

Starting things off in the new i20 line-up is a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 61kW and 115Nm, which can be found on both the Premium and Executive.

This powertrain is exclusively sold with a five-speed manual gearbox, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 5.9l/100km.

The front-wheel-drive hatch is also available with a 1.4-litre block, which produces a total of 73kW and 133Nm.

The 1.4-litre drivetrain was previously only found on a single Motion specification, but can now be had in either the Premium or Executive trim.

It is mated to a six-speed automatic shifter and consumes an average of 6.9l/100km.

Importantly, the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol plant is no longer sold with the mid-range trim as it is now exclusive to the flagship N-Line.

The turbo generates 90kW and 172Nm and is paired with a seven-speed, dual-clutch (DCT) automatic, giving it a fuel stat of 6.9l/100km.

Features

The new i20 received a subtle facelift to differentiate the 2024 models from the predecessors, consisting of a more prominent rear bumper and a new set of LED strips at the front that replace the old halogen fog lamps.

There are also six exterior colours to choose from – Abyss Black, Atlas White, Fiery Red, Moonlight Blue, Titan Grey, and Typhoon Silver.

Looking at the equipment sheet, the base Premium units come with automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights, 15-inch steel wheels with styled covers, manual aircon with rear vents, a touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 3.5-inch driver display, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, a four-spoke multifunction steering wheel, keyless entry, cloth and artificial leather upholstery, ABS, and two front airbags.

The mid-range Executive then adds cruise control, 16-inch alloy rims, a wireless phone charger, and a two-tone appearance with a black roof.

The range-topping N-Line benefits from several sporty additions inspired by the carmaker’s N racing division, including a twin exhaust, unique 16-inch alloys with N badging, full leather upholstery, N-branded seats, a unique gearstick and steering wheel with paddle shifters, aluminium pedals, and red accents on the doors, seats, shifter, and air vents.

It also features three driving modes for Normal, Eco and Sport, a Bose stereo, and a sunroof.

Pricing

The South African pricing and line-up for the facelifted Hyundai i20 are as follows:

This includes a 5-year/150,000 general warranty, a 7-year/200,000km drivetrain warranty, and a 4-year/60,000km service plan.
