New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Shogun launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Mitsubishi is continuing to honour its current stable in South Africa with the launch of a new flagship for the Pajero Sport SUV known as the Shogun.

This is not the first time that the Japanese automaker has used this title, as the Pajero’s bakkie sibling, the Triton, was given a similar treatment in May this year.

The Pajero Sport Shogun is now on sale and is available in limited numbers, though the company has not disclosed how many units have been allocated for our market.

Specifications

The Shogun is based on the penultimate Aspire trim level and adds several unique enhancements that emphasize its off-road prowess.

It was first unveiled at the Nampo Harvest Day in 2023 and was designed based on customer feedback.

The unique fitments start with a black Dynamic Shield front grille, black decals, and model-exclusive badges.

There are two colour choices, Jet Black or White Diamond, with the option of a two-tone roof.

The special-edition SUV also features black 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres with white lettering.

Other additions include a black Shogun nudge bar, a snorkel, side window deflectors, fender flares, and Shogun rock sliders.

Regarding the interior, the Shogun comes with all of the same nice-to-haves as the Aspire, meaning you can expect black leather upholstery, electronically adjustable front seats, a multifunction steering wheel, dual-zone climate control with rear air vents, a full-colour digital instrument cluster, and an 8-inch infotainment screen with Smartphone-link.

The equipment list also includes automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and start, cruise control, hill assist, rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.

Like the rest of the range, the top-spec Pajero Sport utilizes the brand’s 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which produces 133kW and 430Nm.

An eight-speed automatic gearbox connects the motor to the Super Select four-wheel-drive (4WD) system, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 8.1l/100km.

Owners have access to settings for 2H, 4H, 4HLc (high range with the central differential locked), and 4LLc (low range with the diff locked).

The seven-seater SUV has a wheelbase measuring 2,800mm and boasts an approach angle of 30 degrees, a ramp-over angle of 23.1 degrees, and a departure angle of 24.2 degrees.

It also boasts a ground clearance of 218mm, a water-wading depth of 700mm, and can tow up to 2,700kg.
