New Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet for South Africa – Pricing and features

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the pricing of the new CLE Cabriolet ahead of its imminent launch in South Africa.

The open-top roadster will be sold in two specifications upon its arrival with a starting price tag of R1,527,270.90.

Performance

The CLE, which is intended as a replacement for both the C-Class and E-Class Coupes, is available in either CLE200 or CLE300 guise, both of which are equipped with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine.

The 200 is rear-wheel drive and generates a total of 190kW and 320Nm, letting it sprint to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds before capping out at 236km/h.

Meanwhile, the 300 uses the brand’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system and is uprated to produce 190kW and 400Nm.

This gives it a faster 0-100km/h time of 6.6 seconds and a higher top speed of 250km/h.

Regardless of which model you choose, a nine-speed automatic gearbox negotiates inputs to the drivetrain, and adaptive suspension is included as standard.

Like many of Mercedes’ newer vehicles, the Cabriolet is also fitted with 48V mild-hybrid tech with an integrated starter motor, which helps to improve fuel economy while contributing 17kW and 200Nm of eBoost during acceleration.

On that note, the CLE200 reports an average consumption of 7.3l/100km, while the more potent CLE300 does 7.8l/100km.

Features

The flashy Mercedes convertible is only available in the AMG Line specification, which entails a generous equipment sheet.

Starting with its biggest selling point, the two-door model uses a multi-layer soft-top fabric roof in either black, red, or grey, which can open or close in 20 seconds while travelling at speeds up to 60km/h.

Other exterior elements comprise 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with high-beam assist, rain-sensing wipers, smart-entry door handles, and a boot that can take up to 385 litres of luggage when the roof isn’t folded away.

Inside, you’ll find a Nappa leather Sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, Artico man-made leather upholstery, a push-button starter, electric and heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, aluminium pedals, and AMG-branded floor mats.

The dashboard is further kitted out with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch MBUX infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Driver assistance functions consist of a reverse camera, active parking assist, active brake assist, and adaptive cruise control, with the option to install things like blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, and traffic sign recognition for an additional cost.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet is as follows:

This includes a 2-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and a 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan.
