FlySafair is launching a new international flight between South Africa and Namibia in October 2024.
The new route will take passengers from the Mother City of Cape Town to the capital of Namibia, Windhoek. Tickets will start at R1,800.
New travel options
FlySafair is currently expanding its operations in South Africa with several new local and regional flights to neighbouring countries.
Namibia has been at the top of the airline’s priority list for some time, as the frequency of flights to Windhoek is still only about 83% of what it was prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning there is a lot of growth potential.
”We have been wanting to break into the Windhoek market for a while, but the barrier, until now, has been aircraft availability,” said Kirby Gordon, the Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair.
“Having an additional aircraft that we are basing in Cape Town is now enabling us to expand into the market with a competitive fare.”
Flights will travel between Cape Town International Airport and Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Gordon explained that the new route is a great option for South Africans wishing to visit friends and family ahead of the summer holidays, or for those who wish to explore more of the African continent.
Namibia is an attractive tourist destination owing to its natural landscape with highlights like the Namib Desert, the Fish River Canyon, the Skeleton Coast, and the Etosha National Park.
It will also serve as a useful flight to foster business between the two countries, and overseas visitors will be able to use Cape Town as a jumping point to visit other African destinations.
South Africa’s big aviation expansion
FlySafair’s fresh route to Namibia is one of several new flights that have been introduced to South Africa this year.
In April, the company launched a new flight between Cape Town International and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, giving both local and international visitors a more direct path to the country’s most famous national park.
This was recently followed up with a similar flight from O.R Tambo International Airport to the Kruger Park, owing to the site’s popularity as a tourism destination.
Other airlines have also been ramping up their travel operations, as Airlink is planning to add a new service between Cape Town and Gabarone in Botswana early next year.
South African Airways, meanwhile, is continuing its business recovery with additional flights that will be added to its path between South Africa and the holiday hotspot of Mauritius.
