New Chery workhorse launched in South Africa – Pricing

Chery has officially entered the light commercial space in South Africa with the introduction of a new panel van built on the Tiggo 4 Pro platform.

The practical crossover is based on the 1.5-litre models and is available in either manual or automatic guise at a starting price of R339,900 and R374,900, respectively.

The panel van has also been fully homologated as a light commercial vehicle, meaning that registered businesses can reclaim the VAT on the model’s initial purchase price.

Furthermore, the Chery is sold with a 5-year/150,000km warranty and a 3-year/90,000km service plan, with an additional 10-year/1-million kilometre engine warranty for the first owner.

Specifications

The Tiggo 4 Pro’s rear seats have been removed in the Panel Van model to make way for a much larger storage area that measures 1,387mm in length, 1,255mm in width, and 941mm in height.

This gives the crossover a cargo allotment of 1,500 litres, which can be accessed via the boot lid or the two rear side doors.

In addition, the Chery is certified to carry up to 360kg and tow a maximum of 750kg.

Powering the panel van is the brand’s 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine which produces a total of 83kW and 138Nm.

Buyers have the option of either a six-speed manual or a CVT transmission, which results in an average fuel consumption of between 6.8-7.0l/100km.

Despite its designation as an affordable workhorse, the Tiggo 4 Pro Panel Van still comes with a generous amount of equipment including keyless entry, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, an electronic parking brake, cruise control, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making it easy to load up a navigation app like Google Maps.

Safety hasn’t been compromised, either, as the Chinese car is still fitted with dual front airbags, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution, emergency brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, roll stability control, hill ascent and descent control, and rear parking sensors.

“We see this model appealing to owners of small businesses as well as courier companies and even security firms, along with multiple other industries,” said Siphiwe Nkutha, National Fleet Sales Manager at Chery South Africa.
