The new Tourneo is officially more expensive than Ford expected

Ford South Africa has announced that the new Tourneo will officially be priced at R1,070,000, a good R70,800 above the indicative price of R999,200 that it released in April.

The reason for the price hike comes down to fluctuations in the rand/US dollar exchange rate.

Earlier in September, TopAuto reported that the new Tourneo would retail for R999,200 upon launch, with Ford later getting in touch to clarify that this was only an indication and that the retail price had not yet been set in stone.

“Pricing for the new Tourneo is not finalised as the company is reviewing currency fluctuations – therefore the R999,200 price that was announced in April is an estimated figure,” it said.

“Once the rand settles against the dollar the company will confirm the price with an update.”

The update has now arrived and despite the recent strength of the rand, it seems that the last few years of weakness following the Covid-19 pandemic took their toll on the Tourneo’s pricing.

Tourneo specifications

At launch, the new Tourneo will exclusively be sold in a single Trend Long Wheelbase (LWB) specification, with pricier Sport and Titanium X variants to be added at a later date.

The people mover is driven by a turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel mill generating 110kW and 360Nm, which is diverted to the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox resulting in an average fuel usage of 7.4l/100km.

The powertrain also incorporates a 20-litre AdBlue diesel exhaust fluid system to transform nitrogen oxide into harmless nitrogen and water, significantly reducing the impact of its exhaust emissions.

Despite being the entry-level trim, the Trend specification is generously equipped from the factory.

It is delivered as standard with automatic dual-zone climate control with independent temperature adjustment for the rear seats, heated front seats, a 13-inch central touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless smartphone charger, and a new 12-inch instrument cluster that incorporates an 8-inch inch configurable digital display.

Completing the package is a comprehensive suite of safety and assistance systems comprising intelligent adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, evasive steering assist, forward-collision warning, reverse brake assist, driver alert with driver impairment monitor, adaptive front lighting system, ABS with dynamic stability control, electronic brakeforce distribution, emergency brake assist, a 180-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, trailer tow electrics, and six airbags.

Each purchase of the Tourneo includes a 4-year/120,000km warranty, a 6-year/90,000km service plan, and 4-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance.
