New Suzuki Swift – South African pricing and specifications announced

Suzuki South Africa has announced the pricing of the next-generation Swift with the starter model coming in at R219,900 – just R6,000 higher than the outgoing generation.

As before, the incoming Swift will be sold in five flavours spanning three trim levels comprising the base GL, mid-spec GL+, and pinnacle GLX. Nothing has been said thus far regarding a new Swift Sport, so it remains to be seen whether we’ll get one this time around.

The hatch will officially hit local showrooms in October with the first customer deliveries to commence “soon,” said Suzuki.

Grade walk

At the bottom of the range, the new Swift GL is equipped as standard with 14-inch steel wheels in plastic decorations, rear LED tail lamps, electrically adjustable and foldable side mirrors, all-round electric windows, a multi-information driver’s display, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and a manual aircon with digital settings.

Also included are six airbags across the entire line-up, an immobiliser and alarm, rear parking sensors, Isofix child-seat mounts, an electronic stability programme, hill-hold control, and emergency brake assist.

Upgrading to the GL+ throws in 15-inch alloy rims, a multifunction steering wheel, a 7-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a reverse camera.

Those who opt for the range-topping GLX can further expect automatic LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, automatically closing wing mirrors, model-specific 15-inch alloys, automatic airconditioning, a leather-clad steering wheel, cruise control, and a larger 9-inch media hub.

Engine

Under the hood, the new Swift family still features a 1.2-litre petrol engine though for this newest iteration it has dropped down to three cylinders from the previous four.

The motor delivers 60kW and 112Nm to the front wheels with all three models being available with a five-speed manual gearbox. Alternatively, the GL+ and GLX can also be had with a continuously variable transmission.

Suzuki has yet to reveal the fuel usage for the powerplant, though it did say it will perform better in this regard than its predecessor thanks to a new multi-point injection system.

For reference, the current Swift returns an average consumption of 4.9l/100km in both manual and automatic guises.

Lastly, all next-gen Swift models with a manual transmission will come with a fuel-saving Engine Auto Start/Stop system as standard.

Price

The South African pricing and model line-up for the new Suzuki Swift are:

  • Suzuki Swift 1.2 GL – R219,900
  • Suzuki Swift 1.2 GL+ – R239,900
  • Suzuki Swift 1.2 GL+ CVT – R259,900
  • Suzuki Swift 1.2 GLX – R264,900
  • Suzuki Swift 1.2 GLX CVT – R284,900

Each purchase is accompanied by a 5-year/200,000km warranty, a 2-year/30,000km service plan, and 5-year/200,000km roadside assistance.

Suzuki notes that this pricing is correct as of September 2024, but is “subject to change without change to this statement.”
