Purist Porsche 911 Carrera T unwrapped – South African pricing

Porsche has unveiled the new 911 Carrera T, the T being short for Touring.

Positioned between the entry-level Carrera and mid-spec Carrera S, the new Carrera T “focuses on the essentials” to attain a more puristic driving persona than its namesakes.

It is available in both coupe and cabriolet variants, with the hard-top retailing from R2,735,000 in South Africa and the soft-top a heftier R3,019,000, both of which are inclusive of a 3-year/100,000km Driveplan.

Local order books for the hardcore 911 have already been opened with deliveries to commence in 2025.

Underpinning the heightened driving experience of the new Carrera T is a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, twin-turbo boxer engine tuned to deliver 290kW and 450Nm.

Power is transferred exclusively to the rear axle through a six-speed manual box featuring an “auto-blip” function to compensate for speed differences between the engine and gearbox during downshifts.

Equipped with the Sport Chrono package by default, the 911 sprints to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds in coupe form and 4.7 seconds in cabriolet. Top speed comes in at 295km/h and 293km/h, respectively.

In line with the increased output in comparison to its predecessor, the new T gets a bigger braking system with an all-round disc diameter of 350mm and six-piston fixed callipers at the front.

Owing to its reduced interior insulation and the auto-blip function, the standard sports exhaust system furthermore makes for a “particularly emotive soundscape,” the German marque said.

Complementing the package is a bespoke rear-axle steering system in combination with a more direct steering ratio on the front axle, which significantly sharpens the sports car’s handling abilities.

Model-specific adaptive sports suspension, which is lowered by 10 mm, is also standard and has been given sporty tuning to make the Carrera T even more agile.

Cosmetically, the new 911 is distinguished from other models in the series through a unique sticker package, a shift-pattern logo the triangular rear windows, Vanadium Grey badging with matching finishes on the mirrors and rear grille lid, as well as Vanadium Grey light-alloy wheels measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear.

It also wears an aerodynamically optimised spoiler lip taken from the pricier 911 Carrera GTS.

Three exterior colour schemes are on offer comprising Dreams, Legends, and Shades, each with a distinctive multi-hue paint palette.

Exclusivity is achieved inside the cabin through fitment of a shortened gear lever topped with open-pore walnut laminated wood, a special “MT” – short for Manual Transmission – badge in front of the gear lever, and a shift-pattern logo printed on the passenger side of the dashboard.

The decorative inlays in the dashboard and the centre console are Vanadium Grey, with the door panel inlays being black brushed aluminium.

Other no-cost amenities encompass a leather-upholstered and heated GT sports steering wheel and four-way electrically adjustable sports seats with exclusive tartan Sport-Tex seat centres.
