New Suzuki Swift officially goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

The new Suzuki Swift has finally gone on sale in South Africa.

Now in its fourth generation, the fan-favourite hatchback has undergone a number of improvements while only receiving a small bump to its starting price.

The new Swift asks for a minimum of R219,900, which is only R6,000 more than the outgoing units.

Features

The next-gen Swift lineup consists of five models spread across three trim levels – GL, GL+, and GLX.

Kicking things off with the base GL, motorists can expect 14-inch steel wheels, LED taillamps, electronically adjustable side mirrors, all-electric windows, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, manual aircon with digital settings, and a multi-information driver’s display.

The hatchback also comes standard with safety and assistance items like an immobilizer and alarm, Isofix child-seat mounts, electronic stability control, hill control, emergency brake assist, and rear parking sensors.

The mid-range GL+ adds to the package with 15-inch alloy rims, a multifunction steering wheel, a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a rearview camera.

As for the top-end GLX, this will throw in automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, auto-folding wing mirrors, unique 15-inch alloys, automatic air conditioning, a leather steering wheel, cruise control, and a bigger 9.0-inch screen on the dashboard.

Engine

The Suzuki is still using a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, but it has dropped down from four to three cylinders.

The power output is virtually unchanged at 60kW and 112Nm, and buyers have a choice of either a five-speed manual or a CVT transmission.

The main benefit of the lower cylinder count is that the small hatch is even more efficient than before, as it now consumes between 4.4l and 4.6l/100km, depending on whether the manual or automatic gearbox is chosen.

The fuel-savings are enhanced even further by the inclusion of a new engine Stop/Start function included as standard on the manual models.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the new Suzuki Swift is as follows:

Each purchase comes with a 5-year/200,000km warranty, a 2-year/30,000km service plan, and 5-year/200,000km roadside assistance.
