More affordable VW T-Cross launched in South Africa – Pricing

VW has launched two new models for the T-Cross series in South Africa.

The facelifted T-Cross was first introduced in August last year with three upper-spec derivatives, but the carmaker has finally added two new entry-level options, slashing the car’s starting price by R70,700 in the process.

Engine

The new variant, which is simply called the T-Cross with no additional qualifier, is available with two different engines.

First up is the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol (TSI) powerplant with 70kW and 175Nm, which was absent from the roster at launch.

This option is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 5.9l/100km.

Alternatively, buyers can opt for the more powerful 1.0-litre TSI drivetrain found in the rest of the lineup, albeit at a much lower price.

This option produces 85kW and 200Nm, which benefits from a seven-speed direct-shift automatic gearbox and consumes 5.6l/100km.

Features

The entry-level T-Cross comes standard with 16-inch wheels, a multifunction steering wheel, cloth upholstery, 2 front USB ports, 2 speakers, manual air conditioning, hill-start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, a remote central locking system, childproof locks on the rear doors, and an 8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Anyone who upgrades to the 85kW model will additionally gain access to a set of LED headlights and daytime running lights, LED rear combination lamps, power-adjustable and heated side mirrors, and an assistance suite with park distance control, electronic stability control, and driver alert monitoring.

This includes a 3-year/120,000km warranty and a 3-year/45,000km service plan.
