Volvo has announced that the T4 derivative of the XC40 model range will go on sale in South Africa in 2021.
The T4 slots in as the mid-range petrol offering in the XC40 line-up, and will be available in three specifications locally.
What’s new
The biggest highlight of this model is the 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 140kW of power and 300Nm of torque.
The motor is paired with Volvo’s eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission, with power sent to the front wheels.
This allows the XC40 T4 to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 8.4 seconds.
“The Volvo XC40 T4 combines bold design with cutting-edge connectivity, clever interior storage, and Volvo’s industry-leading safety technology,” said Volvo.
As a result, every T4 is fitted with the Volvo Cars’ pilot assist system, city safety system, run-off road protection and mitigation, cross traffic alert with brake support, and a 360-degree camera.
Price
At local launch, the XC40 T4 will be available in Momentum, Inscription, and R-Design trims – with the South African starting price listed at R654,580.
Alongside the T4 petrol model, the XC40 P8 All Electric will also be launched in South Africa – with pricing for this variant yet to be confirmed.
Orders for the XC40 T4 and P8 start in May, with deliveries expected to commence in August.
