June was an excellent month for South Africa’s car industry, with many of the top models reporting an increase in sales.

The Hilux is still number one, as expected, though the bakkie saw a big jump from 2,548 to 3,035 units between May and June.

Similarly, the Ford Ranger is holding onto second place thanks to 2,318 new customers.

One big change this time around is that the Suzuki Swift dropped from third all the way to eighth, meaning several other cars moved up a spot.

The Toyota Corolla Cross came third with 2,132 units, followed by the VW Polo Vivo with 1,962 units.

Another bakkie – the Isuzu D-Max – then made it into the top five last month with 1,678 purchases.

After this came the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, the Hyundai Grand i10, and the aforementioned Swift, which sold 1,538, 1,484, and 1,466 units, respectively.

The Haval Jolion landed in ninth place with 1,116 sales, putting it just four units ahead of the Suzuki Fronx in 10th place.

Another model that had a particularly good run last month was the Toyota Fortuner, which climbed from 18th to 11th place with 878 units.

This was followed by the Mahindra Pik Up with 860 sales, and the Toyota Starlet’s 852.

The Suzuki Ertiga – the first MPV on the list came 14th with 840, followed by the Toyota Vitz and Nissan Magnite with 794 and 774 units.

Nearing the bottom of the top 20, we find the VW Polo, which sold 756 examples in June.
