Suzuki sets a new record in South Africa

Suzuki has set yet another sales record in South Africa, smashing its previous figure by 356 units.

According to the latest official report from the Automotive Business Council, the Japanese carmaker sold a grand total of 6,890 units this October, beating its previous record of 6,534 units set just two months earlier in August 2025.

This is also the fourth consecutive month that Suzuki has sold more than 6,000 cars in South Africa.

Of the 6,890 models purchased over the last 31 days, 4,842 (70.2%) were attributed to dealership sales.

The government, rental industry, and corporate fleets accounted for the remaining 2,048, setting another internal record for Suzuki, as this figure is 183 units more than the previous high it achieved back in January this year.

These sales numbers have cemented Suzuki’s position as the second-best-selling car brand in South Africa behind Toyota, putting it ahead of other top performers like VW, Ford, and Hyundai.

  1. Toyota – 13,559 units
  2. Suzuki – 6,890 units
  3. VW – 6,221 units
  4. Hyundai – 3,017 units
  5. Ford – 2,9476 units

“We are absolutely thrilled to set a new monthly sales record this October, and I want to thank every customer who chose Suzuki for their journey,” said Henno Havenga, GM of Auto Sales and Marketing at Suzuki Auto South Africa.

“From our best-selling Swift to our versatile commercial and SUV lineup, every model has played a part in this achievement.”

Affordable imports

While Suzuki has been in South Africa for many years, it has not always been a top-performing brand.

The carmaker saw a meteoric rise in popularity around the turn of the decade when demand for cheap cars skyrocketed – something Suzuki was in a prime position to capitalize on.

Suzuki may be a Japanese company, but all of the models sold in South Africa are actually manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in India.

This has allowed the carmaker to import a variety of affordable models like the R227,900 Swift hatchback and the R299,900 Fronx crossover, which have proven to be big hits with consumers.

In fact, Suzuki offers more sub-R400,000 cars than any other brand in South Africa, which has understandably been a major draw at a time when car prices are higher than ever.

In October, the Swift topped the brand’s sales charts with an impressive 2,377 units, which was followed by the Fronx with 1,369.

Other popular entries included the Baleno hatchback (596), the Ertiga MPV (521), and the Dzire sedan (409).
