The affordable car brand outselling VW, Ford, and Hyundai in South Africa
Suzuki has set a new monthly sales record in South Africa, breaking the 7,000 unit barrier for the first time.
According to the latest industry sales report published by Naamsa, Suzuki Auto South Africa sold 7,292 passenger and light commercial vehicles in October 2026.
This reaffirms Suzuki’s position as the second-best-selling brand in the country behind Toyota and ahead of other top performers like VW, Ford, and Hyundai.
The new sales total easily surpasses the brand’s previous record of 6,890 units, which was set one year ago in October 2025.
Dealership sales accounted for 5,055 units, roughly 69.4% of the brand’s total sales, while fleet customers contributed the remaining 2,234 units (30.6%).
“The result maintains Suzuki’s standing as South Africa’s second-best-selling vehicle manufacturer in a year that has seen continued growth in new-vehicle sales,” said the company.
In terms of model sales, the Swift continues to be the carmaker’s best performer, adding 2,344 units to the final tally in October.
This was followed by the Ertiga MPV with 1,234 units, the Fronx crossover with 1,118 units, the Baleno hatchback with 556 units, and the Dzire sedan with 543 units.
“Breaking the 7,000-unit barrier for the first time is a significant milestone for Suzuki, and one that reflects the continued support of our customers and the hard work of our dealer network,” said Cristine Knight, Senior Manager-Sales and Dealer Development at Suzuki Auto South Africa.
“Setting a new overall monthly sales record is something we can all be proud of. It reflects the strength of our model line-up, the trust South African motorists place in the Suzuki brand and the commitment of our dealer partners to delivering a positive ownership experience.”
The company said that it remains committed to providing affordable vehicle options for the South African market.
“Our focus remains on offering South African motorists vehicles that deliver on reliability, quality and value, while continuing to strengthen our presence in the local market. We don’t take the support we’ve received for granted, and we look forward to building on this momentum.”
Affordability is a winning strategy

Suzuki’s sales have skyrocketed since the start of the decade in response to growing demand for affordable cars.
It has the largest catalogue of models under R400,000 of any car brand in the country, giving it a competitive edge during a cost-of-living crisis, when many households are cutting expenses and downsizing major purchases like vehicles.
The Swift hatchback, which starts at R228,900, is the third most popular passenger car in South Africa after the VW Polo and the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, selling thousands of units every month.
Suzuki’s cars are also a key part of Toyota’s continued success in South Africa, as most of Toyota’s sub-R400,000 options are actually rebadged Suzuki models.
The Starlet and Starlet Cross, for example, are rebadged versions of the Suzuki Baleno and Fronx.
These models are the result of a partnership between the two manufacturers, allowing Toyota to concentrate on its mid- and high-end offerings like the Corolla Cross and Prado while still being able to sell cars in the sub-R400,000 market.
