New BMW X3 – South African pricing

BMW has announced the South African pricing for the new X3.

The X3 range now has a starting price of R895,658 for the X3 sDrive 18d, and goes up to R1,415,042 for the X3 M40i.

The new SUV will be built at the company’s plant in Rosslyn, Pretoria, and will go on sale on 1 October 2021.

What’s new

The new BMW X3 sees an updated design and a revised standard equipment list, with the new kidney grille and headlights being the most noticeable changes.

The front and rear bumpers were also slightly redesigned, while the taillights received a new pattern too.

The entire range is then fitted with LED matrix headlights, a new underguard, 19-inch Y-Spoke wheels, and free-form tailpipes.

Moving inside, BMW said the new X3 adopts the centre console of the current 4 Series, with a 10.25-inch central display installed across the range.

A range of Sensatec artificial leather upholsteries are available to choose from, while standard features include three-zone climate control, electroplated trim elements, and a “Black Panel” instrument cluster with a 5.1-inch multi-information display.

The latest iDrive 7 infotainment system is also fitted, which enables BMW Maps, an integrated voice assistant, over-the-air software updates, and support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa.

Engines

The updated BMW X3 comes with five engine options, which are connected to an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels in the sDrive derivatives.

The range-topping M40i then gets an eight-speed Sports gearbox and drives all four wheels.

The power outputs for the diesel engines are:

  • X3 sDrive 18d – 110kW
  • X3 xDrive 20d – 140kW
  • X3 xDrive 30d – 195kW

The power outputs for the petrol engines are:

  • X3 sDrive 20i – 135kW
  • X3 M40i – 285kW

Every engine is also paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid starter generator to ensure “even better driving performance with lower fuel consumption and increased driving comfort”, said BMW.

The energy saved by means of recuperation can be used for an electric boost of up to 8kW, in addition to supplying the 12-volt on-board network.
