Toyota Corolla Cross – South African pricing announced

The new Toyota Corolla Cross is going on sale in South Africa in November at a starting price of R349,900.

The Corolla Cross will be available in three specifications – Xi, Xs, and Xr – with the top-end models powered by a petrol-hybrid drivetrain.

Specifications

The entry-level Toyota Corolla Cross Xi comes with automatic headlights and LED taillamps, keyless entry, powered mirrors, a multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, a manual air conditioner, all-round electric windows, and a multi-information display in the analogue gauge cluster.

The Xs trim adds fog lamps and LED headlights, while the interior gains leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a digital instrument cluster, a reverse camera, and a touch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

All models are equipped with hill assist control, ABS, and four airbags, too, while the range-topping Xr is set apart through the addition of the Toyota Safety Sense assistance package.

This option comprises adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane trace assist, and a pre-collision warning system.

Engines

Driving the Corolla Cross is either a 1.8-litre, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine – or a 1.8-litre, petrol-hybrid powertrain.

Both options connect to a CVT transmission.

The naturally-aspirated motor produces 103kW and 173Nm, and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 6.8l/100km.

The hybrid set-up combines its petrol motor’s 72kW and 142Nm with an electric motor that produces 53kW and 163Nm to achieve a combined system output of 90kW – due to transmission reduction losses.

The company did not specify how much torque this unit generates.

A dedicated EV mode is also available with this configuration, where operation is fully electric, and aimed at situations such as peak-hour traffic, said Toyota.

Combined fuel consumption for models with hybrid drivetrains comes in at 4.3l/100km.
