Mercedes-Benz has updated its website to reveal the preliminary launch dates for its electric EQ range, showing that the EQA, EQB, EQE, and EQS will be available in South Africa from April 2022.
The fifth EQ model, the EQC, is also confirmed for a local introduction – although no launch date has been announced.
EQA
Mercedes-Benz South Africa has said little about the new EQ models, only revealing a few key details for each vehicle to flaunt them before they arrive.
The EQA crossover – the electric cousin to the GLA – is said to have a sporty, modern look and “unusual” wheels, with the interior featuring the MBUX infotainment system with gesture, touch, and speech operation.
EQB
The EQB SUV has a more rugged design with larger dimensions than the EQA, and features a black grille and light strip at the front.
This SUV also gets the MBUX infotainment system with an “intelligent assistant” and boasts up to seven seats and a maximum cargo capacity of 1,710 litres.
EQE
The sporty EQE is the smallest electric sedan Mercedes-Benz currently offers.
Its design is based on “pure aerodynamics”, it sits on 21-inch twin-spoke rims, and comes with a digital cockpit that incorporates the MBUX “Hyperscreen”.
A host of comfort and safety features are available for the EQE, including multi-contour seats with air chambers and “vibration elements”, rear-axle steering up to 10 degrees, and remote parking.
EQS
The EQS slots in at the top of the EQ family as the most luxurious model.
This sedan comes with massage seats, the largest MBUX Hyperscreen on the market, a “first class” two-seater rear bench, and active ambient lighting to cement its spot at the head of the line-up.
Each EQ car will also be available with Mercedes-Benz’s intelligent driver assistance systems that “think for themselves”.
Exit warning function is the only confirmed feature thus far, but it is safe to assume that the company will not disappoint in this area.
“Occupants and other road users are protected effectively – even when you have already reached your destination,” said Mercedes-Benz.
