JAC has introduced a new 2.0-litre, turbo-diesel engine to its T8 double cab bakkie range in South Africa.
The T8 debuted in the local market in early 2020 and has thus far only been available with a 1.9-litre motor.
The new engine will be offered with 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains, with models starting at R412,400.
The new engine in the JAC T8 is a “highly responsive” common-rail, turbo-diesel motor that puts out 104kW and 320Nm.
A six-speed manual transmission is fitted as standard, with combined fuel consumption rated at 8.7l/100km for the 4×2 model.
This gives you “an approximate range of 900 kilometres on its 76-litre tank”, said JAC.
The 2.0-litre T8 is then capable of carrying up to 900kg in the rear load box, while supporting a maximum braked towing capacity of 2,000kg.
The 4×4 derivate is further equipped with an electronically-controlled, “time-sharing” four-wheel-drive system that switches between rear-wheel and four-wheel-drive at the push of a button.
“The T8 4×4 also offers a low-speed, four-wheel drive selection (4L) and a torque amplification mode, enhancing off-road ability,” said JAC.
Ground clearance for the T8 is a respectable 220mm, with the approach, break-over, and departure angles coming in at 29.6, 23.5, and 22.4 degrees, respectively.
The JAC T8 features a healthy list of equipment as standard.
The double cab offers LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, leather seats, manual air conditioning, a multi-information driver’s display, a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, and keyless entry.
Connectivity is then taken care of by a 9-inch touch display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
In addition, safety systems on the bakkie include ABS with hydraulic brake assist, traction control, hill-start control, and two airbags.
The South African pricing for the 2.0-litre JAC T8 is as follows:
Each purchase includes a 5-year/150,000km warranty and a 5-year/60,000km service plan.
