Chery Tiggo 4 Pro launched in South Africa – Pricing and specifications

Chery has launched its Tiggo 4 Pro compact SUV in South Africa at a starting price of R269,900.

The Tiggo 4 Pro is locally available with two petrol engines and three transmissions – spanning four specification grades.

“The new model is the flag bearer of Chery’s new design language and proudly carries the Chery logo and large hexagonal grille with unique diamond pattern,” said Chery.

Specifications

The new Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is available in Urban, Comfort, Elite, and Elite Special Edition (SE) specifications.

Across the range, the SUV offers LED daytime running lights and automatic headlamps – halogen as standard and LEDs on the turbocharged versions – with 16-inch wheels setting the Urban and Comfort apart from the Elite and SE with their 17-inch alloys.

“Ground clearance varies between 170mm and 180mm, depending on the choice of wheel and tyre,” said Chery.

Every model also sports LED rear lights, electrically-adjustable wing mirrors, a high-level LED brake light, and a roof-edge spoiler.

Standard cabin amenities in the Tiggo 4 Pro includes a multi-information driver’s display measuring 3.5 inches as standard and 7 inches on the turbocharged variants.

In addition, the line-up offers a 10.25-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a DVD player.

In the Urban and Comfort, you further get a four-speaker sound system, a manual airconditioner with rear-seat vents, keyless entry and start, and a multifunction steering wheel.

The Elite and SE specifications then add dual-zone climate control, two additional speakers, a sunroof, and full leather upholstery on top.

A reverse camera is also installed on every model except the entry-level Urban, while traction control, ABS, hill start assist, hill descent control, roll stability control, and two airbags comprise the Tiggo’s main safety systems.

Engines

The Tiggo 4 Pro Urban and Comfort feature a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine generating 83kW and 138Nm.

In the Urban, the motor drives the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission, whereas the Comfort is fitted with a CVT transmission that offers a manual override mode through steering-mounted paddles.

The Elite and SE models are powered by a 1.5-litre, turbo-petrol motor putting out 108kW and 210Nm.

With these models, customers have a choice between a six-speed manual transmission or the aforementioned CVT.

“CVT models fitted with the turbo-petrol engine also have a special driving mode selection between standard, economical (eco), and sport and accompanying steering adjustment modes between eco and sport,” said Chery.

No acceleration, top speed, or fuel consumption figures were provided by Chery for the Tiggo 4 Pro.

Elite Special Edition

The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Special Edition derivatives are set apart by red detailing on the exterior design, while the cabin is treated to red contrast stitching and a multi-colour LED lighting system.

“Rounding off the SE package are puddle lights in the side mirrors and special threshold welcome lights for the driver and front passenger,” said Chery.
