Volvo South Africa has expanded its XC60 SUV line-up with a new entry-level model starting at R750,094.
This is R139,000 cheaper than the previous entry-level XC60.
The new XC60 B5 Momentum Front Wheel Drive (FWD) went on sale in the country at the start of February.
Specifications
The Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum FWD is equipped with a mild-hybrid powertrain that incorporates a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine paired with a 48-volt battery to achieve a combined output of 183kW and 350Nm.
Connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the setup guarantees that the FWD SUV is able to reach 100km/h in 7.0 seconds – 0.1 seconds slower than its all-wheel-drive siblings, said Volvo.
Thanks to the mild-hybrid system, the B5 FWD also boasts impressive fuel consumption figures, coming in at a combined rate of 6.9l/100km, as well as a decent maximum braked towing capacity of 2,300kg.
Inside the cabin, the B5 FWD comes with dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver seat, a wireless charger, a reverse camera, and all-round parking sensors.
Leather upholstery on this XC60 is optional, however.
Additionally, the entry-level model is fitted with a 9-inch central screen running on an Android-powered infotainment system, thereby allowing access to Google apps and services, as well as over-the-air software updates.
The XC60 also earned the Top Safety Pick Plus award from the American Institute for Highway Safety in 2021, alongside the five-star Euro NCAP safety rating it previously scored, said Volvo.
Luggage capacity for the SUV is rated at 505 litres with all five seats up and 1,432 litres with only the front seats erected.
Price
The new Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum has a South African starting price of R750,094.
Included in the price is a 5-year/100,000km warranty and maintenance plan.
“The arrival of the new XC60 B5 FWD puts this efficient yet powerful mild-hybrid powertrain within reach of more South Africans,” said Greg Maruszewski said, managing director at Volvo Car South Africa.
“The new B5 FWD derivative will further cement the XC60’s long-held status as the brand’s top-selling vehicle in the country.”
