South Africa a major market for Porsche

Porsche Middle East and Africa (MEA), a fully-owned subsidiary of Porsche, has revealed that South Africa ranked number one for model deliveries in the first quarter of 2022 for the region.

“South Africa was the top-ranking country within the region followed by the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and India,” said Porsche MEA.

In total, 2,572 units were delivered to these countries between January and March 2022 – 1,051 of these in March alone – marking a 25% increase when compared to the corresponding period in 2021.

These results mark the best first quarter, and best March, for Porsche MEA since 2013, it said.

Best-selling models

The Porsche Cayenne SUV – starting at R1,451,000 in South Africa – was the best-selling model for the MEA region in the first quarter of 2022, improving its sales by 86% year-on-year.

A total of 1,140 Cayenne models were handed over to customers during the period, accounting for 44% of the total deliveries.

In second place sits the Macan – starting at R1,050,000 – with 823 units sold, accounting for 32% of all deliveries.

For South Africa specifically, Porsche previously confirmed to TopAuto that these two models are the best-selling vehicles it has.

In third was the legendary 911 – R1,719,000 – with 11% of deliveries, totaling 283 vehicles.

In fourth is the all-electric Taycan (R2,262,000), in fifth the Panamera (R1,622,000), and in sixth the 718 line-up comprising the Boxster (R1,510,000) and Cayman (R1,470,000).

Porsche MEA did not reveal exactly how many units it sold of these last three model ranges, but stated that the Panamera improved its deliveries year-on-year by 92%, while the Taycan enjoyed “a stable trajectory.”

The recently-launched 718 Cayman GT4 RS – the first of its kind – also bolstered the deliveries of Porsche’s mid-engined sportscar range, it said.

“The last three months have been exhilarating resulting in an impressive business performance,” said Dr. Manfred Bräunl, Chief Executive Officer at Porsche MEA.

“Our importers have done an absolutely fantastic job once again and I would like to thank them for their commitment that goes beyond the here and now, with a clear mindset directed towards the future.”
