Mercedes-Benz all-wheel-drive Motorhome conversions now available in South Africa

Mercedes-Benz Vans South Africa now offers Motorhome conversions through its official partners for the popular Sprinter all-wheel-drive (AWD) model.
The Sprinter AWD was chosen as the base vehicle due to its “quality and lasting performance for carefree traveling, whether city hopping or mountain meandering,” said the company.
Each Motorhome conversion will be perfectly suited to its buyer as each customer is afforded the flexibility to do nearly anything they desire with the interior.
Outdoor luxury
The new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Motorhome conversions offer high-end luxury in the rugged outdoors.
Each one can be customised from the ground up with a specific purpose or need in mind, “whether installing the kitchen of your dreams along with blissful sleeping quarters, or Wi-Fi and a stylish office nook, you can create the ultimate home away from home, exactly the way you want it,” said the company.
Unlike conventional vans, the new Sprinter AWD is able to go into more treacherous terrains, too, thanks to its revised underpinnings featuring an updated 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine generating 140kW and 450Nm paired with an “optimised” nine-speed automatic transmission.
Power is now also put down to the ground via an active all-wheel-drive system that sends torque to the corner that needs it most at any given moment – in contrast to the “engageable” system on the previous-generation Sprinter that fed 35% to the front and 65% to the back – which noticeably improves grip in many driving conditions.
Price and waiting time
The pricing and conversion costs for the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter AWD Motorhome in South Africa are as follows:
- Mercedes-Benz Sprinter CDI 319 AWD – R1,199,348
- Motorhome conversions – Approx. R200,000-R900,000
Due to the vast selection of equipment offered there are currently no preconfigured Motorhome conversions available, but the company said that this is something it will be looking into in the future.
The most basic of conversions “can be done within a month” but the waiting times largely depend on the features and equipment chosen by the customer, Mercedes-Benz Vans told TopAuto.
Each Sprinter AWD Motorhome retains its original 2-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty with optional service and maintenance plans further being available.
