BMW South Africa has revealed the pricing for the entry-level specification of the next-generation X1.
This model will be available in two trim levels – the xLine and M Sport – with prices as follows:
- BMW X1 sDrive18i xLine – R753,045
- BMW X1 sDrive18d xLine – R790,617
- BMW X1 sDrive18i M Sport – R793,045
- BMW X1 sDrive18d M Sport – R830,617
Each purchase includes a 5-year/100,000km BMW Motorplan.
The X1 will also be made available in diesel and it will reach local showrooms during the fourth quarter of 2022, whereas the all-electric iX1 will do so in the first quarter of 2023.
The pricing of these models will be revealed closer to the launch date.
X1 specifications
The petrol version of the third-generation BMW X1 will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, giving it a power figure of 115kW while torque is pegged at 230Nm.
This powertrain is married to a seven-speed dual-clutch Steptronic automatic transmission delivering drive to the front wheels, which nets the SUV a fuel consumption return of 6.5l/100km.
Acceleration, meanwhile, clocks in at 9.0 seconds for a 0-100km/h sprint, while top speed maxes out at 215km/h.
Other improvements over the outgoing generation include a wider track and a new rear-actuator wheel slip limiter, leading to improved handling, traction, and stability, according to the automaker.
Visually, the new car sports the same kidney grille design found on many of the manufacturer’s other recent models, as well as LED headlights, and 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.
To enhance the driving experience, owners are further treated to a 10.7-inch digital driver’s display as well as a 10.25-inch media screen with the latest features from BMW’s 8th-generation operating system.
Additionally, buyers can expect luxuries such as artificial leather upholstery, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, automatic dual-zone climate control, a wireless phone charger, leather multifunction steering wheel, active park distance control, driver fatigue monitoring, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and a rear-view camera.
The boot is also capable of taking 540 litres of luggage, and the rear seats can be folded to increase this to a generous 1,600 litres.
Upgrading to the M Sport will then add larger 19-inch bi-colour alloy rims, front sports seats with blue contrast stitching, paddle shifters, adaptive M suspension, a high gloss painted exterior, and M logos on various items including the pedals, key fob and exterior panels.
