New VW Polo Sedan in South Africa – Pricing and specifications

The new VW Polo sedan is now on sale in South Africa with prices starting at R318,300.

The sedan is available in two trim levels – the standard and Life – with the Life offering a choice of a manual or Tiptronic gearbox.

Features

The standard Polo is equipped with LED headlights and taillights, a two-tone upholstery, a multifunction steering wheel, manual air conditioning, cruise control, and a 7-inch infotainment unit with smartphone pairing.

Those who opt for the Life can additionally expect a chrome package for the grille, window strips and door handles, and 16-inch alloy wheels for the exterior.

Furthermore, the Life increases the size of the media screen from 7 to 10 inches, upgrades the air conditioning to automatic climate control, and adds rear park distance control, an eight-speaker sound system, keyless entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a wireless phone charger, and a rearview camera to the list of features.

The Tiptronic version of the Life also comes with paddle shifters and hill start assist.

The boot space for the Polo is then listed at 521 litres.

Engine

The Polo is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to either a five-speed manual or six-speed Tiptronic gearbox, depending on the model.

This powertrain delivers 81kW and 152Nm, and fuel consumption is listed at 6.2l/100km for the manual and 6.5l/100km for the automatic.

Acceleration, meanwhile, is clocked at 11.2 seconds from 0-100km/h for the manual, with a top speed of 190km/h, while the Tiptronic takes a slower 12.2 seconds to reach 100km/h and its top speed is slightly lower at 187km/h.
