Citroen South Africa has revealed the facelifted C5 Aircross, keeping the same model line-up while adding new features to the range.
As before, the SUV is available in two trim lines – the Feel and the Shine – with local pricing as follows:
- Citroen C5 Aircross 1.6T Feel – R633,900
- Citroen C5 Aircross 1.6T Shine – R683,900
Each purchase includes a 5-year/100,000km warranty, maintenance plan, and roadside assistance plan as standard.
What’s new
The updated C5 Aircross has a new look, with more structured lines throughout and a redesigned front end that is larger than the one on the previous model.
The distinctive chevrons that are the signature of the brand are now black lacquered, underlined with chrome, and visually stretched by a set of black and chrome “piano keys” which are integrated into the V-shaped LED headlamps and daytime running lights.
The aesthetic side scoops found on the old car have been made functional on the new vehicle to improve aerodynamic performance, and the central air intake has been improved, too.
A new protective skirt on the front bumper has further been added, which combined with the Aircross’s large 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, gives it a ground clearance of 230mm.
These wheels are finished with a two-tone black and aluminium facade, and a black scheme has been applied to many of the exterior components, from the side mirrors to the roof rails.
Available paint jobs consist of Eclipse Blue, Ice White, Pearl White, Black Pearl Nera, Platinum Grey, and Steel Grey.
The biggest addition to the interior is a new 10-inch tablet that “floats” on the dashboard, which has a more ergonomic design thanks to higher positioning than before making it more accessible and easier to view, according to Citroen.
This tablet controls the air conditioning, which now has its redesigned air vents mounted lower on the dash, while other functions of the C5 can be accessed through the 12.3-inch customizable digital instrument cluster.
This screen can now also display the navigation and provide information relating to driver’s aids, meaning the driver no longer has to take their eyes off the road as often.
These assistance features include adaptive cruise control with a stop/start function and active lane departure warnings.
As for the seats, they have been reinforced with an extra 15mm of foam for better comfort and are upholstered in fabric, and the centre console and dash are finished in a black leather-effect fabric with chrome trimmings.
The new Citroen’s boot, meanwhile, offers a generous 720 litres and up to 1,630 litres with the rear seats folded, thanks to a modular design inspired by the world of minivans.
Finally, the engine remains unchanged, with the C5 retaining its 1.6-litre turbo-petrol powerplant producing 121kW and 240Nm.
Combined with a six-speed automatic gearbox, the SUV runs to 100km/h in 10.5 seconds and manages 7.9l/100km on a combined fuel cycle.
